Tradeshow Recap & What’s Hot in Hats
By Jan Burkholder, Screamer President

The 2011 tradeshow season has disappeared in our rear view mirror and we’re excited to share that our sales are trending up almost 30%! Highlighted by the SIA, Outdoor retailer, and ISPO this was our 19th year and the experience can be summed up in one word: TRAPPERS. Classic Trapper hats were the hot item to be had this winter season and Screamer has already nailed it with some of the best styles. This was followed by a push for our “S3” Super Soft Fleece neck warmers because of the ultimate softness, quality, durability and price!

This season we've listened to our customers, really put our heads together, and matched up what's upcoming in the hat world. We have designed clean and flattering hats paying attention to the finishing touches such as buttons, patterns and prints, colors, new fabric blends and most importantly, warmth. New styles come and go, but the ones that have stayed in the Screamer collection are always being tweaked for improvement. We have broadened our line a bit, allowing room for new beanies, bandanas, trapper hats, and earflap hats.

Here is a sneak peek into our predictions for next season:

  1. Trapper Hats: To complete your winter look we offer a variety of styles and patterns to choose from. Either way as the snow falls and temperature drops you will be stylish and cozy. Styles and pattern trends include stripes, jacquard, plaid, cable knit and corduroy. As for outer protection; stay warm with classic faux fur, leather, and suede. To prevent those winter chills from coming in, ear flaps can be worn down for full ear protection with either a button chin strap or ties. If the weather warms up, simply snap or tie it up! Our trapper hats come in a style that is fit for everyone! Look for our best sellers, Vodka Bar and Aviator.
  2. Earflaps: Peruvian and Sherpa’s are popular this year showing off both tradition and warmth. Offered in a full or fleece band lining using only our signature “S3” Super Soft Fleece. Tight knit wool/acrylic blends give you the benefit of a comfortable fit while staying toasty. This year we have added detailed tassels and stylish accents.
  3. Billed Beanies: In the streets we have billed beanies offered in a variety of patterns, styles and colors. These beanies keep your dome warm while the bill keeps the sun and snow out of your eyes. Look out for our Zip Rock which is flying off the shelves!
  4. Beanies: How do you stay warm and cool at the same time? One word, a Beanie. A fashionable, practical and warm accessory to any outdoor activity. This year we have added more styles, knits and patterns to our line. Slouchy hats have shrunk in slouch and beanies have a loosened knit for a casual street wear. Cable knits, bold stripes and colors with poms are spotted on the slopes. Look out for our Osborne and Brenda beanies!
  5. Texture, Colors and Fabrics: Fabrics that are popular now are acrylic and wool blends, faux fur, fleece and Lurex (metallic yarn). Screamer has put those textiles to the test this season giving each fabric a consideration on how it effects the shape and function to a hat. Look out for large cable knits, waffle weaves, and some fun fluff knits!
